OUR STORY
Our History
Our History
Picayune First Baptist Church has been a fixture of the Picayune community for generations. From a small congregation in the early days of the city to the multi-generational church family that gathers today at 401 Goodyear Boulevard, our story is the story of God's faithfulness to His people.
The early years
The church was planted in the early decades of the twentieth century, when Picayune was a young railroad and timber town. Like many Southern Baptist churches across Mississippi, FBC began as a small group of believers committed to preaching the Bible, baptizing new believers, and equipping the next generation.
Growth and ministry
Through the decades, the Lord grew the church and its ministries:
- Discipleship through Sunday Bible Fellowship classes for every age and stage of life.
- Children's ministry — including the long-running WEE School preschool program (ages 2-4, September through May) which serves families across Picayune and Pearl River County.
- Students ministry — equipping middle and high schoolers to know Jesus and live as His followers.
- Missions — partnering with the Southern Baptist Convention's Cooperative Program, the Mississippi Baptist Convention, and local missions efforts including United Missions Offering (UMO) appeals each year.
- CrossOver Sports — using sports leagues and clinics as a bridge for families who might not otherwise step inside a church.
Where we are today
Today FBC Picayune is a multi-generational congregation serving Picayune and the surrounding communities. Our pastoral and ministry staff invest in every age group; our facility includes a sanctuary, classrooms, fellowship spaces, and the WEE School wing; and our weekly rhythm centers on the gathered worship services at 8:30 and 11:00 AM each Sunday.
Where we are going
Our Next 5 Years page shares the strategic vision our leadership has set for the next chapter — investing in the next generation, strengthening local missions, and stewarding our facilities for the families the Lord brings to us.
